PNG Canoeing Association president Williard Stephen’s prayers have now been answered after the association was given K150,200 last Thursday.

Under the new Sports Enhancement programme initiated by the Sports & 2015 Pacific Games Minister Justin Tkatchenko, PNG Canoeing was granted the funding to buy equipment.

The cheque was presented to Stephen at Elevala Canoeing Club house at Elevala village in Port Moresby.

Stephen said the funds would go towards purchasing new canoes from Tahiti and Australia to supplement the limited number of canoes the association currently uses for training and competition.

Tkatchenko said there was need for funding in all sports to gear them up for the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby. With four clubs in Port Moresby and six affiliated clubs from outside centres, the association is now preparing its team for the Mini-Pacific Games later in September in Wallis & Futuna.
