Forward Luke Page, pictured, has vowed to play his part in laying the foundation for the Papua New Guinea LNG Kumuls backline to get a win over the Great Britain Lions rugby league team at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off).
Page said since it was their last game of the year, he would do his best to provide enough go-forward for the Michael Marum-coached side.
“The Lions have many NRL and Super League players,’’ Page said yesterday.
“They are winless from their previous (three) games and are desperate for a win over the Kumuls. We have to close in on their forwards so that they don’t gain momentum through the middle. They won’t run over us.”
Page said last weekend’s game against Fiji was good but there was still room for improvement.
“During the Fiji game, Edene Gebbie’s try was a result of team work,” he said.
“So we have to work together as a team. We have to maintain our defence and gain enough meters up the middle.
“If us forwards do our job up the middle, we’ll be able to pave the way for our backs to finish off.
‘’It will be a tough game. For us, it’s all about getting stuck into training and gaining some confidence. We want to get the win for the country.”
