THE member for Rigo, Ano Pala, has praised the Electoral Commission for the way the elections have been conducted in his electorate, Central province.
“I am not sure how the previous elections went. But I would like to commend the commission and all those involved in these elections for a job well done.
These elections were truly free and fair,” Pala said last night.
The incumbent also commended police and army personnel for their part in securing polling booths and the counting areas.
“There have been no problems since voting started up until this stage of counting.
“It reflects how organised the officials, casuals and volunteers were.
“They are still counting but there still hasn’t been any major incident.”
Pala added that the people had made their choices without fear or favour.
“For Rigo, the results will tell.”
He also appealed to candidates with disputes to bring the matter to court after the elections instead of trying to delay the process.
“There are processes to follow to get your complaints heard.
“Let the Electoral Commission get on with the job of concluding these elections.”
Pala was yesterday leading after elimination 24 with 5,500 votes, 2,197 votes more than second-placed Turai Elemi and Wala Gamu (2,149).
Pala is a member of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s People’s National Congress Party.
