THE national rugby sevens team (Palais) will look to continue training during the State of Emergency with their coach using social media to monitor the side’s progress.
Palais coach Paul Tietjens told The National that the team had been given a training programme prior to the lockdown.
He called on players to stay updated while undergoing their individual training from their homes.
“The players are using a training booklet I provided them six weeks ago to complete what they can during this time,” Tietjens said.
“Over the next week, I will be sending out new programmes to the entire Palais squad while they are at home or in isolation.
“We are in regular contact via WhatsApp and Facebook messenger, and the women have been instructed to post their daily training sessions on these forums once completed.
“I am hoping to resume training as a squad when it is safe and when the Government lifts the restrictions.”
The Palais’ campaign for the year has been put on hold with the team and other nations observing travel restrictions around the world.
The first Sevens Challenger Series and HSBC World Sevens Series are among the events that were postponed.
Meanwhile, the PNG Rugby Football Union has suspended all its programmes with the governing body yet to decide on their resumption.
