PANGU Pati will be the first political party to launch its website.
Pangu, PNG’s first political party that also produced the first prime minister, is setting the pace in becoming another first to have its own website.
Party leader and Housing Minister Andrew Kumbakor yesterday launched the website,  www.pangupati.com, in Port Moresby.
The Pangu website is a very exciting development because its registers Pangu Pati on a global platform.
Kumbakor, who is also Nuku MP, said when he became the party leader, there were a number of new initiatives that the party would pursue during his tenure. The website and writing up a Pangu Pati history were among some of the items on his agenda.
“Pangu and Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare are synonymous and Pangu is an institution that you cannot remove,” he said.
He said other political parties were like businesses that when a leader goes the party dies and he encouraged reforms that would hold political parties together as institutions.
“Pangu is so rich in its history and with the website, we can now put up our history for the Papua New Guinea and the world to see.”
He said the party is going forward in embracing technological innovations in the technology age and information technology was one area that the party would go into becoming a modern political party.
Kumbakor said the party could now register all its members throughout the country with people having access to party information on the website.
He said the national government was also going into data base information or civil registry that would have information its people.
He said with the lack of data there had been problems such as election cases in courts of disputed returns which is a very expensive exercise and even take up to five years before a decision is made making the electorate suffer.
“When the Electoral Commission and Pangu Pati start organising its data base, this will cut down on some election-related problems because of the updated data base available on-line.”
He said the first task now was to register all its members throughout the country hoping to reach between one and three  million members including children of members.
“We can then have personal profiles of leaders and its members. Let us be transparent as the first political party to lead the way in this information technology age.”
Website developer John Kongoi, who is director of jComplex Technologies Ltd, said the website is like registering a company with IPA where no-one else could use the name.
“It is like launching a living book which will never be out of date – that is being constantly updated to reflect current news for Pangu Pati.
There are six main front page features where the world will see Pangu first up on home page, donations, details on government, profiles of its parliamentary members, member’s page and policy framework page.
“If sponsors and supporters want to support the party, they can do that anywhere in the world, anytime and even while on the road,” Kongoi said.
