PAPUA New Guinea should continue to practise free and fair elections as people have the democratic rights to elect their parliamentary representatives freely, Prime Minister James Marape says.
Marape said this after endorsing Pangu Parti candidate John Simon for Maprik open seat to contest the upcoming by-election in the district.
“It is essential that every Papua New Guinean is afforded the opportunity to elect their leaders without any impediment,” Marape said.
He encouraged people to respect others, including the supporters of different candidates, highlighting the necessity for a peaceful and respectful election process.
“I urge all supporters to foster a respectful environment that allows for a free and fair electoral process,” he said.
Marape highlighted the importance of rural economic development along with Pangu’s key policies aimed at enhancing the rural economy while speaking to party supporters.
He praised Simon’s previous contributions as the Agriculture Minister.
