Pangu Pati appoints Basil as parlt leader

The parliamentary wing of the Pangu Pati on Monday unanimously re-elected Bulolo MP Sam Basil, pictured, as its parliamentary leader and Goilala MP William Samb as deputy as directed by the National Court recently.
The court ruled that the parliamentary wing of the party must meet at the conference room of the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates at 1.30pm on Oct 1, 2018 to elect the parliamentary leader and deputy parliamentary leader.
Similarly, the council of Pangu must hold its next meeting at 1.30pm on Oct 15, 2018 at the conference room of the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates.
The court ordered council members Patrick Pundao (national president), Andrew Ilam (male vice president), Morris Tovebae (general-secretary), parliamentary leader Basil, Sinaka Rea (youth representative Southern) and Nelson Tugo (youth representative Highlands) to meet.
Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphonse Gelu told The National that the turn-up on Monday was very impressive.
Fourteen MPs turned up for the meeting and elected Basil and Samb.
Gelu said it was pleasing to see the parliamentary wing and party executives forgoing the past and vowing to work together.
He said the next step was for election of party executives.
