NEW South Wales coach Brad Fittler has turned to his old Penrith stomping ground in a bid to wrest back the Origin shield with six in-form Panthers picked for the Blues alongside a resurgent Latrell Mitchell, recalled for the first time in two years.
Mt Druitt-bred livewires Jarome Luai and Brian To’o have been named for their Blues debuts in Origin I on June 9 alongside Penrith co-captains Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo, with Luai and Canberra’s Jack Wighton both picked in Fittler’s 17.
Frizell was ruled out due to an ankle injury suffered on Sunday afternoon and will be replaced on the bench by another Panthers rookie in Liam Martin.
Jake Trbojevic will start at prop while Penrith hooker Api Koroisau and Souths centre Campbell Graham have been named as reserves.
Rabbitohs forward Cameron Murray escaped a crusher tackle charge from his side’s win over Parramatta, in a boost for NSW.
Murray was cited for a tackle on Eels winger Blake Ferguson but Fittler was informed yesterday that he would not face any ban, which was later confirmed by the NRL.
The fleet-footed back-rower will be free to play in next Wednesday night’s Origin series opener against Queensland. It will be his fifth Origin match.
