Papa beat Boera to win Hiri nines

 THE Papa Koita Cowboys silenced Boera Sailors 10-0 to claim the Hiri Rugby League nines tournament at Papa, Central, over the weekend.

The Cowboys were awarded K2000, Sailors K1500, Buria Reds K1000 and Bogi Dogs K500.

Hiri Rugby League chairman Micky Kone congratulated the team for making the finals in the Laba Holdings Ltd event.

“Porebada, Boera, Papa, Lealea, Kido, Tubuserea and Bogi villages including a team from Laba took part in the tournament,” he said. 

“This pre-season is aimed at enabling us to choose the best 13 players for each village,” he said.  “The Hiri League was formed in January this year. This is the first of its kind for the villages to get together and compete against each other and I am happy for all teams and congratulate the Koita Cowboys, the host village for winning,” he said.

“We want to see our boys make it to the Digicel Cup competition,” he said.
