PARENTS in Masahet Island in the Lihir Group, New Ireland, have been told good education is important if their children are to enjoy a worthy future.
While attending the first graduation of the Bulame Integrated Christian School recently, they were urged to do their part in ensuring their children got all the help they needed at an early age in order that they saw the value and benefits of having an education.
While addressing the graduation, a member of the combined board of integrated Christian schools on the island called on parents to make sure their children’s school fees were paid as money from the school fees helped in funding its operations.
He said as parents it was their responsibility to pay school fees and other costs of their children’s education.
The school’s ongoing development depends entirely on school fees collected from parents and was now set to see the opening of its first permanent double classroom during the 2012 school year.
The founders of the school, Herman and Joan Saet, both former primary school teachers, want the Bulame Christian Integrated School to become a bridging school for the nearby Lakaziz primary school.
Although the school is privately owned and managed, it was registered under the PNG National Education system in 2010 and its 45 grade two graduates of 2011 will continue their education at the Lakaziz primary school this year.
