PORT Moresby Nature Park’s second Bank South Pacific Trash to treasure sculpture festival will be held from next Saturday to July 11. The park, said in a statement, that the festival was aimed at raising awareness of the growing issue of waste, particularly plastic pollution, and to encourage the public to rethink their disposal of garbage. The event will transform solid waste into aesthetically powerful larger than life sculptures to demonstrate the type and amount of trash in Port Moresby. It said the IHG Group had come on board for the second time as an event sponsor for the festival.
IHG Group general manager Robert Coates said the festival was an opportunity for them to reach out to the public on issues concerning waste and pollution while supporting the park at the same time. Park general manager David Thompson thanked the IHG Group for their support in making this year’s festival a possibility. “At one stage, we were considering postponing the festival to next year, but thanks to our partner and sponsors, like IHG Group, we were able to get it back on track and in time for the launch date,” he said.
