THE Port Moresby Nature Park was affected by flooding last weekend which caused damage estimated at K100,000.
The flood washed away the plant nurseries and damaged fences.
Port Moresby Nature Park general manager Michelle McGeorge, said they were devastated because the plant nursery was generating income for the park.
She said it could take years to recover from the loss as many of those plants had been potted over up to four years enabling them to reach maturity.
The park is a non-profit organisation which relies heavily on funding from the government and donor agencies to implement its research and conservation programmes to promote PNG’s unique flora, fauna and cultural diversity to the rest of the world.
“The best way that the public can help is by visiting and joining our membership programme,” she said.
“And for the business community, they can support by way of donation or utilising our services such as for venue hire and corporate team building activities.”
She said the 550 animals at the park were safe and no animal exhibit was damaged.
