NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has apologised to the family of the late Goilala MP William Samb for the disturbance which occurred during a customary welcome of the body on Friday.
He also apologised to Prime Minister James Marape and other Members of Parliament as well as the Goilala community who attended the haus krai at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex which was about 100-metres from city hall.
Parkop, however, maintained that he was unaware of the haus krai being set up at indoor complex on that day.
“We had planned in advance, the handover and take over for the outgoing city manager Bernard Kipit to acting city manager Ravu Frank,” he said.
Parkop also observed that during the time he was in attendance at the event, he was not aware of any music being played other than performances from bamboo band and garamut from Manus dancers.
“We had planned it well in advance as Kipit’s term ended on Tuesday, March 7, and the formalities were fixed for Friday, March 10,” he said.
Parkop said if his office had been informed of the haus krai at the complex across the road, they would have cancelled their event.
He said he had left well before the commotion started and so was not aware of the situation that lead to the regrettable incident.
“Nevertheless, we offer our apologies, which I have verbally passed on to the prime minister and have asked Frank to formally offer our apologies and when we attend the haus krai, we shall personally offer our apologies,” he said.
