Parkop calls for true patriotism

THE colours red, black and gold are everywhere as city residents and visitors from the Central and other provinces, and abroad, flocked the Jack Pidik Park at 5-Mile to witness the official launching of the independence floats on independence eve.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop cut the ribbon before the convoy of floats joined a procession around the city.
While commending the business community and government entities that prepared and assembled their floats for this year’s event, he also thanked city residents for looking after the city, keeping it clean and maintaining peace.
“This is our 35 years of being politically independent. Let us all take pride of this memorable event and celebrate happily, meaningfully and peacefully in a true Papua New Guinean spirit,” Parkop said.
The governor challenged the people to think and act positively for a better future.
The parade was livened up with traditional performances and singing throughout the day.
