NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says he will not tolerate violence against women in his office.
Responding to a post that went viral on social media over the weekend of a NCD Commission staffer involved in a gender–based violence case, Parkop said he would terminate the employee if the case was proven.
“I will check this staff (member) of mine who is a guard and if he did commit this act of violence then he will be terminated,” he said.
Parkop, who has been a strong advocator for stopping violence against women said his office would not tolerate such behaviour.
“National Capital District Commission will be gold standard in gender equality, non-violence and anti-harassment,” he said. “It starts with us at the city hall and it should start with me walking the talk.”
It was alleged that on Aug 15, the victim, who is a mother of an eight month–old–baby boy was bashed by her husband, who is an NCDC employee.
She said the fight started from an argument involving their son.
“I was concerned with my sick son so I spoke to him about his hospital bills and medication but he swore at me and assaulted me with a bush knife,” she said.

  • Sack him but give his job to the wife so there is still income for the family.
They need to raise the child with some form of income.

    • That’s a great idea, Kindin. That will also humiliate the culprit, when the wife gets his job.

  • Sacking the staff should not be the ultimate option to punish one, try other options such as suspension without pay, family violence intervention etc.

To terminate staff invites other socio-economic related issues crippling in again. It could be worse.
