Parliament House not a place of worship

I COULD not believe when I was watching TV WAN news last weekend airing footage of the so-called Body of Christ members worshipping in the State Function Room of Parliament.

It was aired in the news that that practice has been going on for some time and this insane activity is being spearheaded by religious fanatics.

How can Speaker Theodore Zurenuoc and that senior parliamentary staff grant continuous access to Parliament by this religious sect as if the damage they inspired for the removal of totem poles is not enough.

I do not think our parliamentarians will have their sessions in a church so the Body of Christ movement should respect the domain of Parliament.

Such activity is taking the movement to a whole new level.

What a shame for the Speaker and his senior staff who featured in the TV WAN news for the wrong reasons.

Go pray for your members at your church and not inside Parliament.

They should also know that politics and religion do not mix. History has shown us that highly esteemed proponents of modern state and governments have called for their separation.

Religion concerns the private sphere: what pertains to you as an individual or as a member of a voluntary community of like-minded individuals (e.g a church). By contrast, politics concerns the public sphere: what pertains to you as a member of a wider community (a province or nation) of individuals with diverse views on issues such as religion.

Both are for the welfare and betterment of the people. Where religion guides us, politics is important for development of a nation and its people.

Nonetheless, leave politics to the politicians and religion to the clergy.

The clergy pray and worship in a church while parliamentarians make laws  in Parliament.

So Mr Speaker, are you and your followers worshipping in the right place?

Go build a church and worship in it and stop misusing Parliament.
