Parliament to adjourn

PARLIAMENT will meet at 10am today for question time and then adjourn to allow for MPs to attend the Speakers Investment Summit.
Speaker Job Pomat told The National that Parliament may rise this week and adjourn to November, just after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Summit, for the next session.
“MPs are encouraged to attend the summit,” Pomat said.
He said Parliament was likely to rise on Friday but it depended on the government and business of the day.
“Looks like we will rise on Friday and adjourn until November, but we will know by Friday what happens,” Pomat said.
The summit ends today but the exhibition is expected to continue until Friday.
Meanwhile, Clerk of Parliament Vela Konivaro said the beautification and improvement of the fountain areas at Parliament were approved by Pomat.
“This beatification and improvement of the fountain area and car park and Independence Boulevard have put us in a position where we had to do things urgently,” he said.
“This was in preparation for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Parliament where he will be at the ceremonial car park to open the new boulevard that has imposed on us to ensure that the front areas are in presentable form. We propose to undertake a new fountain project, a unity pillar at the end of the boulevard and upkeep of the parking area.
“We are looking into that development to upgrade it.”
