Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia indicated yesterday that the third and final reading of the Bill that will create the much-anticipated Court of Appeal will come up in the next sitting of Parliament.
“In the last term of Parliament, there were two readings but the elections came around and put a hold to it but I’m told that the third reading will come up in the next sitting of Parliament,” he said.
Sir Salamo underscored the judiciary’s intention of making the Court of Appeal a reality when he said that by the opening of the new Waigani National Courts complex
next year, “the laws will have been passed and the new Court of Appeal will have been created before we move in here.”
According to him, the Supreme Court will have seven Judges while the Court of Appeal will have 11.
