FINANCIAL assistance from members of parliament towards the small medium enterprises (SME) is defeating the intention of the sector, a local entrepreneur said.

Wasamo Commodities Ltd general manager Tony Walega said this was not addressing SMEs own delivery process and capacity.

He said the government’s advocacy on SMEs was a noble notion and was a direction Papua New Guinea needed to alleviate poverty, sustain livelihood and economic growth.

He said SME’s propellants or vehicles need precise delivery processes, capacity and competencies.

“SMEs comprise an entrepreneur, an enterprise, a product, a market and a flow process of goods and cash as the bridging agents. So SME policies must be tailor made to address these parties and provide pillars competent to stimulating this parties and processes.

“To date SME vehicles have and are still using the all out ‘shoot before aim’ practice.
