FIVE judges of the Supreme Court have ordered that Parliament resume its sitting on Monday, with the 110-seat House now split right down the middle in numbers.
Prime Minister James Marape said: “I am blessed to have 55 members of parliament who continue to give me their personal and people’s support. They and other leaders I know, are leaders whose souls cannot be bought or sold. I am proud to associate myself with this class of leaders.”
Opposition Leader Belden Namah said: “We have the majority (55). We are ready to deliver the government to the people.”
Which side should be in power is what is at stake.
In its sitting on Nov 13, the Opposition with 57 on its side pushed through a motion to have Parliament adjourned to Dec 1, when it would be eligible to move a motion of no confidence against Marape.
But the Government, in a sitting suddenly called on Nov 17, moved that Parliament be adjourned to next April.
The Supreme Court ruled yesterday, in a case filed by Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill, that the Nov 17 sitting was unconstitutional and invalid. Thus matters approved in that sitting, including the 2021 National Budget, were declared null and void.

Kala Aufa

Clerk to Parliament Kala Aufa told The National yesterday that Parliament would abide by the court order to sit on Monday. But the agenda is yet to be confirmed.
Marape yesterday also brushed aside calls for him to resign.
“I am not going to resign just because one or two Opposition politicians have called on me to do so. There are no grounds for that,” he said.
He instead challenged Namah to bring his 55 MPs to Parliament on Monday.
“You claim you have the majority. Please produce that majority on the floor of Parliament where it matters most, not in locked-up hotels.
“Bring your motion of no confidence.”
He also challenged Namah to name who the alternative PM is.
“Let’s deal with this matter. At least the country deserves to know who is the alternative PM. Why keep it a secret even from your 55 MPs?”

  • PMJM, Have confident in God, you are chosen by God to Lead this Nations through the prayers of Christians in all parts of PNG. This corrupt minded MPs and PMs will never succeed in anywhere. As an employee, I would say a short term pain for a long term gain

  • Namah, when asked on when a change of Government would occur, he responded by saying: “We will give the people of this country a Christmas present”.

1.What Present does he referring too?
    2.How does this sounds?
3.Does it comes with good intentions?

My opinion is, The opposition will give this country a SHOCK…!!
Not a good one but a bad one..
This time noken complain na painim man lo ba kam savim country.

  • Funny how our politicians are like celebrities being mentioned over and over time and time again BUT the fact is if go back to see our own provinces and districts, you will find one thing which is called NOTHING. Nothing has been done so far since 1975.

  • Nothing’s been taken back, we going anywhere near being the richest black country neither being very christian.
We are stuck and the cowboys in the haus tambara have no idea which side are they fighting for

  • Never ever allow military to be involved in politics because of the power it command. You will regret if that happens. Study history of military power and you will understand.

  • PMJM you have the support of all the people of Papua New Guinea. I believe in your leadership.

    • PMJM Govt has taken back PNG in managing petroleum and mining resources investors negotiations with about 50 % gains for the nation at its root cause ” the loophole of the colonial and outdated laws” many people who don’t see now will appreciate it in due time.
Give PMJM few months to complete with other issues of corruption at high level before 2022.

  • Hair raising here when Government seem to know the legal implications would backfire but instead ……. and nau em kamap nau. Fingers crossed for tomorrow may never be the same!

  • We pray for peace, not the peace of the world but the peace that comes from the holy Son of Our living heavenly God, our Lord Jesus Christ. Our leaders must seek this Peace, so that your hearts will not be troubled and you shall not be afraid of anything but fear the Lord.
Leaders who have motive to be in Government and cause disharmony and disunity. Remember this nation PNG belongs to God almighty Yahweh. Do the right thing for this nation, Not accumulate your selfish wealth. God bless PNG

  • What is good presentation will Mama give to people of PNG in this Christmas season??? Can we imagine that???

  • Reading between the line with more than 2 vying for the same post in the same camp is a tough call with the number game.

PNG deserves better than all this nonsence.

  • Guys
Marape government break the constitution right there in front of our eyes by influencing and coerced the speaker Pomat (who could not think for himself) to recall parliament.
In a true democratic tradition. If the government had 10 of its MP walked out on him, he will hand in a resignation and called for fresh election which Marape failed to do. Secondly he hijacked the parliament, break all the rules to pass the budget without the balances and checks which only the opposition can bring. He had the second opportunity to resign when the judiciary rules against him and his government but he still refused to resign. I am not a fan of Namah and Oneil but from what we have witnessed, Marape has break all the rules of democracy to try cling on to power and still call himself Mr Clean. The speaker POMAT needs to resign too for favouring the government I believe he is more worry about his job than protecting the integrity of his chair and the people of Papua New Guinea.
I salute the deputy speaker of parliament for upholding the integrity of the chair and the people of Papua New Guinea for his action in this Saga.

    • While on that, MP RP has brought to the court, challenging the legality of BN as the opposition leader for adjourning the parliament sitting to December 1. That case is yet to be decided by the courts (PO’s lawyers were smart, as a complainant, they did not brought this into the court yard (this is the element that triggers the recent political tug-of-war, and caused the speaker to have the parliament recall). The courts are yet to decide the legality of this moves by BN (I stand to be corrected) .

The recent court battle is won by PO and not the opposition. Opposition through BN have voted for parliament sitting to be held on December 1, that adjournment was also made invalid by the Supreme court apart from the parliament sitting dates set by the government side. In other words, the opposition have slap the government on the face and also slap themselves on the nose too. No actual winner declared yet here in this political tug-of-war. In-fact they draw. The grand final will be played either in the coming Dec 14 sitting or sometimes at a set date in the future.

At this stage, I do not see opposition on the winning side, however I see the courts on the winning side, making decision without fear or favor, unlike in the past when the courts have been sometimes hijack by the past governments.

Courts to be independent in their decision making is the most important thing for PNG. We don’t want to see chief justice(s) being chased around in the court house, or chief justice delaying important cases in fear of their lives or the lives of their families.

  • Marape not just broke the laws but much more evil. He has been conveniently using Almighty’s to fool a lot of people. He is a wolf in sheep’s skin.
Prior to the court decisions a lot of people were saying Marape was the anointed leader and he would win the court case.
Well, he lost the court case.
He will lose the VONC because he is just as corrupt as PO and the dumb speaker.

  • Taking back PNG has began in current amendment to the outdated colonial masters loophole rules that helps multinational corporations. PMJM Govt made good progress about 50 % gains for PNG Govt and resources owners in petroleum and mining negotiations with investors . This is a long term
benefit that many people who don’t see now will appreciate it in due time. We MUST NEVER bow to unknown people who are barking at the resources owners. All other issues will systematically be corrected at its root cause therefore give PMJM few months to complete it.

  • At last the truth prevail ,We can do all means to secure the post but the nature speaks at last
Simple resign an preserve your didnity

  • High court has made the ruling.
My concern is, who is the alternative PM? Is it Belden Namah or Peter Oneill?
Opposition will be kidding themselves if they put either of the two in for the top post. It will be like a dog eating what he vomits. Disgusting!

  • Let’s wait and see who will form the next government. Who will be the next PM. From the opposition side, It definitely wouldn’t be PO, BN or SB as they are subject to Tribunal.

On the Government side, JM is the choice to continue prime minister-ship. MP #s on both sides are locked at 55/55 (what a tug-of-war). Movement of a single MP, a single member of parliament to either side will make a enormous difference in this political strive.

Oppositions are in a lot of trouble at the moment…..

  • I’m totally peace with your visions and it’s interpretation
But I don’t want PO to come back to power again.
Papa God, why bai mipela pilim pain again.
Papa God gives us good leaders like James Marape, bikpela pisin,ORO governor, EHP governor Enga governor and Mandang member.
    This is my prayer

    • I’m not brushing aside Kinz vision but let me flag this again; Even demons have the power to prophesy (predict the future) and speak to humans via dreams and visions (forms of spiritualism). Such dreams fulfilling does not necessary means it is from God.

We shall know them (leaders) by their fruits. We shall know these leaders through their every day living, through their actions, through their words, through their interactions, through their policy etc in order for us to know if they are godly to lead this country.

As said earlier, I for one, will never forget this vision provided by Kinz Yako.

  • I think we overlooked a lead fact/element/men that swirlpooed our mindset out of control. The high courts are by human/judges just like you and me therefore they are always subjected to their own feelings and self desires and wants. Their minds are also corrupt meaning mi ba sanap blo yu lo kot na ba TRAIM WINIM CASE BLO YU NA BA U GIVIM MI HAMAS MONI NA KAIKAI?…. Those judges spoilt the soup for us. Much of these has not made use of COMMON SENSE olsem ol papa na tumbuna blo mipla bipo as usim lo stretim ol height insait lo ol hauslain hausman blo mipla lo ples nabaut…na tingim!!!!
