PRIME Minister James Marape says all outstanding benefits for political parties will be cleared.
He was responding to questions by Aitape-Lumi MP Patrick Pruaitch if the Government honoured its responsibility to political parties and the support it provides.
“The benefits that the State accords to political parties are part of the Act of the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates, and in particular, regarding the provision of benefits to political parties,” Pruaitch said.
“Political parties operate effectively if funds are made available and I believe it has not been fulfilled by the state in this term of parliament.”
He asked Marape to inform Parliament if that was the position of his (Marape’s) government to not fund political parties at all.
Marape said: “I give full assurance to the leader of the National Alliance that all entitlements to political parties owing including officials will be looked at, and our government will look at what is outstanding before we go to the 2022 financial year.”
