Partnership aims to fight corruption

TRANSPARENCY International Papua New Guinea (TIPNG) is partnering with the Constitutional Law Reform Commission (CLRC) to fight corruption.
The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding in Port Moresby on Wednesday to work together for the first time.
TIPNG chief executive officer Arianne Kassman said the partnership was part of their anti-corruption and integrity strategy project to work with government agencies, civil societies, private sectors and the media to strengthen integrity and gain public trust in PNG.
She said this would help develop state agency level anti-corruption strategy decision to assist the commission fulfil its constitutional role.
Kassman said TIPNG was committed to work with essential agencies and to ensure PNG was able to stand up against corruption.
“We want to critically and constructively engage in all the stakeholders and encourage popular demand for good governance, accountability and part of that is partnership,” she said. She said this could be achieved through working with government civil societies, private sectors and media.
CLRC secretary Dr Mange Matui said corruption was a big challenge in all works of life in the country, either from the highest level of professions down to tea-boy level.
He said the partnership would help them reform laws to address the issue.
