Partnership aims to strengthen capacity of women leaders

UNITED Nations Women have gathered women leaders under its “women make a change” programme to support them.
In collaboration with the Department of Community Development, Youth and Religion, they are working to strengthen capacity of women leaders, although there is no women in Parliament.
Programme manager Alithia Barampataz said they hosted a programme in Lae for women leaders which ended yesterday. “Under this programme, we are looking at supporting and empowering women,” she said.
“This is part of our work to strengthen the capacity of women leaders, although we do not have women at the national parliament, there are women in elected positions and nominated leadership positions at the subnational level.
“This is one of the priorities of UN Women and Department of Community Development showed priority for us to strengthen the capacity of leaders and showcase the work that women are already doing in leadership positions.
“For this programme, one of the components is strengthening public perception of women as equal leaders as men.”
Barampataz said the aim was to boost and promote the work and roles women were doing in their leadership positions.
