AFL Papua New Guinea (AFLPNG), in partnership with Paradise Foods Limited, ended a month-long programme of community and school engagements to mark the Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon month of October.
The “Pinktober” month celebrations saw AFLPNG’s Em Nau Niukick schools programme coincide with the foundation’s awareness activities in Kokopo, Port Moresby, Mt Hagen and Lae.
Paradise Foods brand manager Rebekah Houji said the programmed involved AFLPNG facilitators from each centre addressing important issues and creating awareness in schools and communities throughout the country last month.
“The programme focuses on talking to students about the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices,” she said.
“It delivers messages similar to those of the foundation’s Healthy Teens School Programme (HTSP) so the two initiatives complement each other well.” Houji said the foundation’s programme was conducted for grades 3, 4, 6 and 7 students while the grade 5s took part in drills with the AFLPNG team.
“The Tru Tru Wara Pinktober month-long nationwide campaign ended on a high note,” the brand manager said.
“The Em Nau Niukick programme provides a closer level of community engagement.”
The programme also saw AFLPNG facilitators attend a cancer awareness initiative at Morobe’s Butibam Resource Centre and Kokopo, East New Britain.
Meanwhile, AFLPNG Southern development officer David Topeni told The National that the programme’s success was due to the continued partnership with Paradise Foods Limited.
“We do what we can for our schools programme but with the support of Paradise Foods Limited in October, we all got to learn something new,” he said.
