THE opening ceremony of the 33rd Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELC PNG) from Jan 9-15 will be a meaningful one for a pastor who will be ordained in his home district.
Ps Leslie Eburi from Cape Rodney, will be the first from Central and only one so far in the synod’s history, to be ordained at the welcoming ceremony on Sunday at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Waigani, Port Moresby.
The opening ceremony will see congregation members from the different churches in Port Moresby, marching into the stadium dressed in their church colours, along with live music, choreographed performances and a traditional performance from a Cape Rodney group.
“All events are ready now, so come Sunday we’ll be ready to welcome members of the congregation from 16 other districts,” synod committee secretary Adam Wangu said.
Deputy chairman Kingston Alu has encouraged people from Northern, Central, Milne Bay and Gulf, which make up the Papuan district, to come prepared to showcase their culture, not just at the opening ceremony but throughout the week.
During the week of the synod, there will be committee meetings within the indoor complex, with presentations of the district leaders and panel discussions to address district needs.
