KAIRUKU-Hiri returning officer Edward Kila has called on the Chief Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen to pay his counting officials on time.
Counting for Kairuku-Hiri went into the elimination process over the weekend but Kila raised concerns that allowances for his 200-plus counting officials must be sorted out quickly to avoid
any inconvenience before the return of writs on Friday.
Edward said they went into the quality checks of ballot papers last Thursday for the benefit of the candidates and their supporters.
“My counting officials and I visited the Central province headquarters but we are still not satisfied with the response we got.
“The Electoral Commissioner (EC) must step up and set the standard and pay their allowances on time.
Kila said the EC must also sort out payments for the hire vehicles and dinghies which the Central province election team used during the elections.
