Peace torch makes PNG stop

Sports

THIS year, for the first time, the peace torch of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run will encircle the globe.
More than 2000 runners from 50 countries will carry the torch.
Starting in Indonesia two weeks ago, the peace run team arrived in Papua New Guinea on Saturday.
The Southern Hemisphere relay will be a continuous route and will visit 44 nations on five continents.
PNG was the fourth country to receive the torch, after Indonesia, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands.
The team will also visit numerous island nations in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, South America and Africa.
The run, now in its third decade, has visited over 150 countries, giving millions of people the opportunity to express their yearnings for a more peaceful world.
Millions of people have participated after the peace run was founded in 1987 by Sri Chinmoy — an athlete, philosopher, artist, musician and poet who dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of world friendship and oneness.
