Menyamya MP-elect Thomas Pelika’s main priority will be fixing the deteriorating highway from Bulolo to Menyamya and investment in coffee.
He said he wanted to see public motor vehicles servicing Menyamya from Lae and Bulolo regularly.
There is no proper PMV service from Lae at present, with people using open-back utes as PMVs on the bad road.
“The fixing of road will enable PMV service, transportation of coffee and agricultural produce from the district to markets in Lae,” Pelika said.
He said the district would continue to invest in coffee and linking isolated villages in the district with roads would boost the coffee industry there –  in line with his Pangu Party policy on investment in agriculture.
Meanwhile, Pelika thanked the election joint security force for a job well done in his area.
“We had issues with a shortage of ballot papers, with not many people voting but the election went well with security  presence,” Pelika said..
He was declared Menyamya winner on Monday after polling 12,125 votes in the second preference count, defeating former MP and PNC candidate Benjamin Philip, who polled 8098 votes.
