Penalty for bank card theft too lenient

Letters

A DISTRICT court magistrate recently sentenced a man to three months in jail or to pay a fine of K300 for a bank card theft.
That is not as harsh and punishable.
This offence is serious in nature if the culprit was not detected and caught.
The victim and his family would have been badly affected and have gone through all kinds of problems – not achieving many of their dreams and wishes with all their hard earned life time savings withdrawn and enjoyed by the lazy crook.
The crime of bank card theft is thriving with many culprits cleverly accessing other peoples’ bank cards and enjoying their savings.
To stop and deter this crime, magistrate and judges must hand down verdicts taking into consideration the consequences and implications this crime would have on the victims and their families.
