ACTING Commissioner of Police, northern division, Peter Guinness has asked the people in the region to behave when celebrating Christmas and New Year.
“Christmas is a time when we come together in a family spirit and celebrate its full meaning without getting ourselves involved in activities that may put us in awkward situations,” he said.
He said drink-drive was common and the end result was death, especially at this time of the year.
“Accidents along our main highways and on our maritime routes to our local villages come about because we do not think of others.”
PMV drivers and boat skippers must be cautious when travelling and avoid being under influence.
“People should go back to their families and enjoy the meaning of Christmas within their family units rather than celebrating in ways that can cause accidents and loss to lives and properties,” he said.
He said police would monitor the movement of people and conduct checks on legality of liquor outlets.
