People are now walking long distances with their cargo after two bridges in the Upper Jimi area of Jiwaka were washed away on Feb 8.
Jimi public relations officer Peter Masu said 10,000 people were affected and he expressed concern about them walking long distances.
“The bridge at Kun River, 55 kilometres from Banz, was completely washed off,” he said. “As a result, people are forced to walk.
“Since the bridge was destroyed and people lost gardens, they have faced difficulties. If there are any government interventions in emergency response, please look into this situation.
“Replacement of the bridges for both Kun and Jimning rivers are an urgent need. Vehicles stop before Kun and drop off people and cargo.”
