AROUND 18,000 people from Gazelle, East New Britain, are venturing into poultry farming.
They are members of the new Utet Agro Cooperative comprising six communities in the Inland Baining local level government.
Group board chairman Hosea Kaelam said the group would venture into a poultry hatchery project by feeding day-old chicks plus the sale of eggs and chicken meat.
They also plan to diversify into spices, cocoa, copra, fresh produce to sell to other provinces.
“We want to provide employment to our people and also alleviate poverty in the wards,” Kaelam said.
“We want to make a small township in Gaulim.”
