NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has urged people to change their lifestyle because healthy living leads to longevity.

“Most of our people are dying young. These people never exercise but eat junk food and become lazy without engaging in any form of physical activity,” he said.

“We should call our society a switch society. We sit in our office chairs, cars or homes and switch on fans, switch on mobile phones, switch on the air con, switch lights, switch TV screen, laptop.

“We switch, switch and switch it every day. We do not do any physical activity at all. Therefore we are likely to develop lifestyle diseases.”

Parkop said lifestyle diseases were killing many middle to low income earners and it was sad to see the country missing old people.

“For city residents, I urge you to take a walk with me or join our yoga activities and dancing classes,” he said. “Our Walk for Life programme will get bigger and better in 2016 and expand to other provinces.

“Please join now and save your lives to set a better foundation for our kids to be better citizens.”
