PERFORMANCE auditing will be a major initiative to identify and report on key issues that impact on the delivery of services to people, Conrad Tilau, a participant from West Sepik province, says.
Tilau told a National Economic and Fiscal Commission workshop in Madang province that every province should have an internal audit committee.
He said the internal auditor must be proactive for the province to achieve its responsibilities and obligations.
The internal audit committee is a new project, and of the four Mamose provinces, East Sepik is the only one that does not have an internal audit committee.
During the workshop, representatives from provinces contributed ideas and suggested approaches to improve the internal audit committee.
A representative from Madang said it was a way to improve service delivery.
He said the audit committee should revise or update the review to match the situation.
A presenter from the Internal Audit Committee said an audit was like being in all professions.
He said performance audit encouraged governments to improve the way they managed public funds.
He said they were working closely with stakeholders to achieve the broader public goal of improving service delivery.
The Madang spokesman urged the National Economic and Fiscal Commission to come down to the districts and report some of the
important sectors such as health and education as they needed to improve their administration systems.
