PETE’S PUNCHLINE

Sports

  • A fan has asked if the Digicel Cup broadcasters can tell the sideline commentator to tone down the accent a little bit this weekend. He’s tired of cringing in front of his TV. I think he and many others are wishing the same thing but here’s a problem: what if that’s his natural accent? If so, can the sideline guy try and fake a PNG accent? Just wing it, man.
  • There seems to be a handful of coaches in the NSL and Digicel Cup who can’t even spare a few minutes for match post mortems every weekend. Your fans aren’t allowed to attend your matches and see how you’re doing so the least you can do is say something.
  • Straight after Nick Hasu leaves the Lahanis, they draw with the Gurias. The Lahanis say it wasn’t a coincidence but divine intervention.
  • A sports headline in the other daily earlier in the week read, “Lae City smash Hekari”. Problem is the score was 1-0. Is that a smashing? No. Come on, we know you love City, but don’t make it so obvious.
  • The Raptors are chugging along going 2-0 against the Nets while the Clippers got shown up by the Mavs in game 2 of the NBA conference playoffs. And the Lakers got beat by the Blazers. I’m still sticking to my guns of a Raptors-Clippers final series.
  • Hey cricket fans out there, in case you missed it, the Isuzu Cup (50-over comp) is on at Amini Park. Lega Siaka scored a century last week off 95 balls. The little guy is warning up nicely and so are the other Barramundis. I’m expecting Assad Vala to hit a notable score this weekend as well.
  • I hope they’re televising the North v South game. – PGTP ([email protected])
