SECOND-PLACED Phoenix continued their winning form with a 3-0 shutout of Snipers in round 10 of the National Capital District Volleyball Association competition at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre on Saturday.
Coach Linda Simoi oversaw her Phoenix’s solid defence and attack en route to their fourth straight victory of the season. “It was a good win to maintain our place on the ladder,” Simoi told The National after their A-grade men’s win over fifth-placed Snipers.
“I expected a strong performance from my players.
“Our spiking was commendable.
“Our blocking has improved, so we’re hoping to maintain that form in our next match.” Denichris Mark, Pokana Kulu, Samuel Ila and Oliver Vele were unstoppable in the spiking department.
So far, Phoenix have recorded eight wins after round 10, but Simoi said the team needed to improve their defence. “We’re still struggling with our court cover,” she said.
“Our passes are slowly improving. All in all, my players are reaching the peak of their game.”
Meanwhile, Phoenix’s premier women’s team lost 3-1 to second-placed Edatec Scorpions.
“We attempted a strong comeback in the third set, but were unable to continue the momentum in the fourth set,” Simoi said.
“But it was a good to see the players’ resilience.
“We just need to work on our passing and covering,” she said after round 10.
