Photographer receives Logohu award

 LAURENCE “Rocky” Roe has received the Member of the Order of Logohu award for “his significant and lengthy contribution to photography and the promotion of culture and tourism”.

He received the award from Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio in Port Moresby yesterday.

He came to Papua New Guinea in 1976 to work as a mechanic with Bougainville Copper. He joined an advertising agency in Port Moresby in 1979 as a photographer. 

Roe welcomed the recognition of his service, saying he is looking forward to the Pacific Games in July.

He was among the 52 people at Government House to receive their awards in recognition of their service to the country. Reverend Cesare Bonivento of the Catholic Church was awarded the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu, which came with the title of Chief. 

Kila Amini was awarded the Star of Melanesia for her “contribution in the promotion of social and economic equality for women”.

Ten soldiers were awarded the Distinguished Military Service Medal for their services to the Defence Force.
