When a picture is worth a thousand words

WHEN words weren’t enough, a volunteer doctor was given a portrait of himself to thank him for his work.
American Dr March Richmond has been helping a community-based foundation in Madang.
Local artist Lesley Wengembo gave Dr March Richmond the portrait in appreciation of his contribution to the Kumura Foundation’s work in the Usino-Bundi district of Madang since December 2013.
Wengembo is the nephew of Vincent Kumura, the founder and director of Kumura Foundation.
“I have never had such a beautiful portrait of myself,” Dr March said.
“This is the first and the best. So I am very thankful to Lesley and the Kumura Foundation.”
He is a retired medical doctor from New Port Beach, in California, and has been instrumental in seeking donations from charity organisations, individuals and hospitals in America to help the Kumura Foundation.
He now serves as a volunteer doctor on the Australian-based medical ship YWAM (Youth with a Mission).
He plans to visit Australia before returning to the United States.
Kumura said Richmond was one of many people who had helped the foundation.
“Through the years, many people had helped to move the noble work of the foundation forward, including the people of rural Bundi who believed in me and have supported our cause in the community,” he said.
