TO observe World Sight Day, the Pacific International Hospital in partnership with Laila Foundation have offered free eye check to about 100 persons in Port Moresby.
PIH consultant ophthalmologist Dr Anyna Sultan said in appreciation to the patients registered, they were offered discount to buy glasses. “They were eligible for a 10 per cent discount on purchase of spectacles from any of our outlets in the country,” he said.
The free eye checkups started on Oct 1 and will continue until today (Oct 19) at all eyecare centres at Vision City, Waigani Waterfront, Waigani, Three-Mile, Lae Brian Bell Plaza and Mt Hagen Tininga. “We care for your eye and encourage you to use this opportunity for you and your loved ones, especially your aging parents, who might need glasses or might have cataracts or diabetes related eye diseases,” Sultana said.
She added that industrial accidents could be prevented by proper use of safety eye wear. In PNG, we see a fair bit of corneal lime burns which can be blinding, both at work place and at home,” she said.
“Sadly, many children are innocent victims of their parent’s betel nut chewing habit.
“If you’re turning 40, it may be time to check if you need reading glasses.
“So many patients are unaware that as we age, our ability of focus up close reduces and arms become shorter.
This often leads to headaches at the end of the day, especially after working on screens of all sorts.
