THE Filipino community will adopt the Tembari children this Christmas.
The community, through the Filipino Association of Papua New Guinea (FAPNG), has begun a campaign to raise goodies, particularly used and old clothing, as its Christmas presents to the Tembari children.
Starting on Monday, FAPNG has set up donation drop boxes at selected shops at Vision City Megamall including RY Hypermart, SVS supermarket at 3-Mile, BS Mart, a Filipino grocery store at Gordon and Filipino restaurant, The Point Restaurant, at Gordon.
Drop boxes will accept toys and other items that will be useful to the Tembari children like DVDs of children’s educational programming and animated educational shows.
The goodies will be presented to Tembari on Dec 4, during a Christmas party.
FAPNG said the Filipinos would like to give back to the community by adopting a group of unfortunate children whom they said needed help to improve their lives.
This would be the first time the community is involving in its Christmas celebration a charity group like Tembari to give their projects social relevance.
FAPNG is a big supporter of Tembari kids whose number has now grown to 200 from 114 last year.
This year alone, the association donated K15,000 towards the children’s feeding activities under the leadership of its recent past president, Tony Valdez.
The recently-elected president is Rey Angeles, who had proposed to the association the “adopt-the-Tembari-children” project under its “Christmas is for Children” campaign.
