Reverend David Piso was re-elected as the head bishop of Gutnius Lutheran Church during the 30th national synod at St Paul’s Lutheran Secondary School in Pausa, Enga, last Saturday.
Piso was re-elected unopposed, marking 40 years as head bishop of the Gutnius Lutheran Church.
The general secretary of the church Robert Bilip, said according to the church constitution, the conference is held every two years to elect the head bishop, district bishop/president and church officers.
“The gathering today is called a conference or synod, it is usually a two days’ event where bishops who are responsible for the church institutions present their reports and, the elections of bishops and the head bishop are made,” he said.
Piso said he had been the head bishop for more than 40 years and he had been faced with many challenges and thus urged members of the Gutnius Lutheran Church to pray for a good administration.
“My biggest challenge that I had and still have is, the church doctrine faith is being challenged by a minority group who are not necessarily concerned with the doctrines but they want to get big name for themselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, the general secretary, also the church education secretary, was reappointed by the synod for another four years.
Those re-elected were Wapenamanda bishop Sala Emeck and Kandep bishop Matthew Yangala.
The synod started last Saturday and ended on Sunday and was attended by delegates from all seven districts in the province.
