Plan for juveniles to help children be better citizens

MINISTER for Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven says the juvenile plan 2018-2022 is to strengthen the rehabilitation programme of youths convicted by the courts.
“This plan is to ensure that children who come in conflict with the law are guided back to become law-abiding individual citizens instead of sending them to jail all the time,” Steven said.
He said that when presenting his ministerial statement in Parliament yesterday. “Our children between the ages of 10 and 18 who come in conflict with the law are referred to under the Juvenile Justice Act 2014 as juveniles,” Steven said.
“And as a member of the United Nations Convention on the rights of a child, children who are in conflict with the law must still be given special care of protection. That is why our juvenile justice system encourages or does its best to ensure that a child who commits an offence is still seen as a child and guided back to a law-abiding citizen.
