Plea fails in death-by-driving case

THE lawyer of a man charged with causing death through dangerous driving argued to strike out the case as witnesses were not in court.
On Sept last year at Taurama, Port Moresby, Taina Koal, 25, from Pomio, East New Britain, allegedly drove a Toyota Hilux and hit the side of an approaching Toyota Coaster bus in an attempt to overtake a taxi.
A man who was seated at the back seat of the bus was killed as his head was crushed.
Waigani District Court magistrate Cosmas Bidar refused Koal’s application to strike out the case, saying the case involved a person’s life and the court had to find out how the person died.
The matter was adjourned to a later date.
