Main Stories

PRIME Minister James Marape has tasked Immigration and Border Security Minister Westley Nukundj to look into allegations of abuse in the Immigration and Citizenship Authority.
“There will be an investigation into the incident. Sometimes there are issues raised because of everyone’s interest in the position someone holds,” he said.
“The investigations will ascertain the facts of the case.”
The allegations of abuse was from January to September last year, involving K8 million paid to service providers without the use of the accepted system to raise cheques.
It is alleged that instead of using the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), the Kundu pay system was used to transfer money to service providers.
Questions sent to the acting Chief Migration Officer Robert Kennedy were not answered.
The Public Service Commission was made aware of the allegations of abuse regarding the hire of cars, costs of accommodation and cases of double-dipping.
A letter from police investigators was sent to the Public Service Commission advising it of the allegations last month.
A letter from a whistleblower was also sent to Prime Minister Marape raising concerns about the use of the K8 million.

  • Many accused people use the media to defend themselves but only an investigation can clear all allegations. In this case, let the investigation begin.

  • Using State properties and money to enrich themselves. Shame on them. An investigation is right way to find out!

  • Investigation is another waste of government money and time.let him go free or lock him up in jail.
Every time everywhere there’s always someone stealing millions. Mi les pinis long lukim na harem dispela kain ol stori long mis usim millions by one single person.

Plis usait bai kam wantaim good mind to tackle such issues and put this to end completely so that is no more millions missing and stolen. Please someone rescue this country.

  • Suspensions of the culprits is paramount prior to investigations. Otherwise it’s all the same story.

  • Investigating the allegations is the first part, the second part is convicting the accused, the third part is imprisonment, have we got some rotten apples rotting in jails as we write?
Investigations alone cost the country so much. The accused will defend himself to breaking point, there are much more cleverer lawyers plying the trade and weak judgements lately by learned judges do not help PNG, so think before we squander good funds for lousy investigations that will never see the color of a jail.
