The Government has assured athletes and officials of Team PNG that the High Performance Centre will continue to assist them in development programmes.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is adamant the facilites built for the games should not go to waste or sit idle.

“The Government has initiated the programme and we will continue to support the programme over the next few years.

“In fact, we will inject more money into the programme in making sure that you may go there and get the best training.

“Government will continue to invest in building sporting infrastructure and developing sporting communities throughout the country,” the PM told the athletes.

O’Neill said the Government would put a structure in some of the incomplete sporting facilities and put in place a management to manage the facilities well so that athletes can go there and continue to use them to enhance their skills.

He added that the Government was also intent on rebuilding the National Sports Institution (NSI) in Goroka, Eastern Highlands and Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae, Morobe, so athletes there can use them.
