THE Government’s key priority is to reform the public service with the intention of making Waigani flatter, thinner and leaner.
Marape, on arrival from a state visit to New Zealand, explained that PNG aimed to follow their model of transforming the public service.
He said Northern Governor Gary Juffa and National Planning and Monitoring Minister Sam Basil were both on the trip to New Zealand.
“We will have greater dialogue in ensuring that the system they have in New Zealand is the type that PNG will build its public service upon,” Marape said.
“Our visit is to touch base with them and consolidate our own bilateral with them.
“Juffa was part of the visit to New Zealand in his capacity as chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Public Sector Reform.
Marape said NZ had one of the best performing public services in global standard.
“There is no wastage and corruption in their system, they deliver to expectations,” he said.
“We made important contact points for our public service to be anchored on.
“We made contacts and we will have greater dialogue in ensuring that the system of public service in New Zealand is the type we would like to build ours.”
“At the moment there is a lot of room for improvement in the public service and New Zealand model is the standard that we would like to subscribe to.”
Marape said in due course, the Government would announce key reforms in the public service.
“It is our intention to make Waigani flatter and in that process we are now making redundant the position of chief secretary whilst maintaining the function of Central Agency Coordinating Committee under leaner structure.”
