PRIME Minister James Marape has reiterated his call to the nation to adjust to living with the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is a medical war we are in and the country must adjust to living with the Covid-19 going into the future,” Marape said.
“The controller had called for a 14-day lockdown in NCD based on evidence that the city was facing community transmission of the coronavirus and for city residents yo adjust their lifestyles to living with the Covid-19.”
He said there would be some measures to be tried out.
“I ask our people to bear with us as we adjust,” he said.
“We all must support each other in these trying times. Our medical workers and our police need our help. Let us help adjust to living with these basic principles and God will continue to help us.”
The new measures to be tried out are:

  • STRINGENT public transport requirements such as the wearing of mask, a maximum of 15 passengers in buses, early checking for airline travellers and monitored sea travelling;
  • MANDATORY wearing of mask in all public places;
  • WORK place safe practices mandatory;
  • MARKETS, sports and community events must be conducted in a safe manner;
  • MEASURING of temperature and washing of hands must be complied with;
  • SCHOOL administrators to be Covid-safe practice coordinators;
  • BARS and clubs will remain shut and beer drinking in public places and settlements will cease;
  • NO shaking hands and keeping away from another person by two meters if without masks; and,
  • CHURCHES will open for services in a Covid-sensitive manner.

  • Prime Minister James Marape needs to wake up and address the major issues in the country. He says we need to “learn to live with Covid”. Okay, we will learn to live with Covid. But why is the Prime Minister dragging his feet on very important matter like the Porgera Gold Mine being shut down? It’s the biggest employer in the country, all the workers are eager to get back to work, Barrick and Zijin also very eager to get is moving again, but Marape is stopping it. Peter O’Neill was a very corrupt Prime Minister but he was and is very smart politically. He knows the 2700 Porgera employees want to get back to work. James Marape is for the most part a man of integrity, but he is very foolish politically. He doesn’t realize that in just three months O’Neill is going to introduce a vote of no confidence in Parliament and that Marape could well be the loser.
