A TOTAL of K10 million out of the Government’s K200 million Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) funds will be set aside for Manus, Prime Minister James Marape says.
Marape told the people of Manus on Monday when launching a number of projects that this would provide the people to have access to funds to go into commercial fisheries and other business.
He said the Government would have discussions with the National Development Bank (NDB) to set up a branch in Manus and for Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd to expand their Lorengau branch.
“From the K200 million, we are partnering with SMEs for the Manus special economic region where we will quarantine K10 million to be parked with banks here,” Marape said.
“When you get the money, go into business. Go into commercial agriculture and commercial fisheries, we will create an avenue to buy it off from you again so you have money.”
