PRIME Minister James Marape has promised Government support towards the establishment of the Ihu special economic zone (Isez) in Kikori, Gulf.
He received, on Monday, gifts from the people of Kikori, thanking him for visiting the district to launch the Isez this month.
Marape said the National Budget was unable to support such big projects, but the Government would support through policy directives that would enable private investment in the project.
“Government will ensure that the policy environment and framework are there to establish special economic zones,” he said.
Marape believed that the Isez was ideal as a pilot project because of the resource development projects already there.
They included forestry and fisheries and upcoming resource projects such as the Papua LNG and P’nyang.
The Ihu economic zone concept was presented during the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Leaders’ (Apec) meeting in Port Moresby.
Kikori MP Soroi Eoe said once infrastructure was built, investors would come in creating, more than 200,000 jobs.
