PRIME Minister James Marape told Parliament yesterday that the audit report on the Community Mine Continuation Agreement (CMCA) for the people of Western would be tabled.
Responding to questions by North Fly MP James Donald, he said he received a copy of the audit report on Monday night which would be put to cabinet for clearance before being tabled in Parliament.
“Let me apologise to the people of Western for what is an unnecessary delay in our bureaucratic system,” Marape said.
“As of last night, I received a copy of the audit report on my table and at the very next cabinet which we propose to have within this sitting of parliament we will ensure that the report is tabled in cabinet for it to give clearance.”
Donald had asked about the audit report because he claimed that K53 million was being transacted to two accounts.
He had been querying about the ongoing legacy issues regarding the trust fund for the people and the Prime Minister’s Department was responsible for the audit report.
“We want the audit report so that we can settle this matter,” Donald said.
“How can we continue to delay this report when the people are suffering, we need these monies to be freed up so we can use it for their benefit.”
Marape said the audit report on the use of non-CMCA funds would be tabled in Parliament for the benefit of the country and people of Western, beneficiaries of non-CMCA, the leaders of the province and the three open members to start now to progress payments of some of those audited projects.
“More importantly, we need to find a better and safer way to secure those funds so they are not wasted but put to good use to arrive to projects that are tangible and beneficial to the people,” Marape said.
“I give you assurance that this report will be tabled in this sitting of Parliament which hopefully should run for the next two weeks.”
